kunRameduththu
Lament of her who is separated from Him

This tirumozhi also is nAyaki pASura. Out of viraha tApa she feels the anril birds, the tenral etc., add to her agony.

My swAmi has once lifted the mount gOvardhana like an umbrella for 7 continuous days in order to protect His dear men and cattle. Thus He prevented the havoc that was intentionally caused by indra. He once performed kuravai koottu with the gOpis in the streets of AyarpADi. It showed His soulaBya and souSeelya. Where is He now? i was hoping fervently that He would come. But He never cared to do so. My heart is now immersed in the sea of sorrow. To enhance it is this anril bird sitting on the palm tree in front of my house chirping without gap. Can't anyone drive him away from his nest?

This kaNNa pirAn who reveals His heroism in breaking the kurunda tree, in defeating the 7 bulls, in plucking the tusk of kuvaLayApeeDa and in killing kEsi and also in killing the rAkShasi pootana is keeping quiet neither caring for me nor reciprocating my love. He is busy with such heroic deeds. Let Him be as He pleases. But why should this flute which is closer to His mouth playing sweet music tease me?

This flute because of its liberty in kissing the mouth of kaNNan induces jealousy in the gOpi’s mind. Hence she says it causes her troubled mind.

i desired so much the saprSa (touch) of tiruttuzhAi mAla of kaNNan who killed the mallas and kamsa as well. But i could not get it. Adding to my wounded mind with jingling sound of the bells tied to the cattle that return from the pasture reminding me of gOpAla kriShNa. If i were an ordinary samsAric woman i would not suffer such an agony.

Sree rAma pirAn took efforts to prove His valour to His dear friend sugreeva (who had doubts about Him). For that purpose He pierced the seven sAla trees with one arrow. sugreeva was satisfied about His rakShakatva. i, on the other hand, have a heady sought His protection, never had any doubt about it and never asked Him to prove it. In fact i had already mahA viSwAsa in Him. Yet, He is indifferent to me. To add to the injury are the ‘karundaN mA kaDal’ and ‘vADai’ torture me more.

idarku en seihEn—When my rakShaka Himself abandons me where am i to go, what am i to do and whom shall i to seek?

My mind went after kaNNa pirAn, the nAyaka of nappinnai pirATTi who has swan-like gait, wears flowers on her hair and wear golden colour saree round her hips. Since then my mothers words fall harshly in to my ears, my bangles dip away from my hands, the roaring sea irritates me and the chirping of anril angers me.

angai talattiDai Azhi koNDAn avan muhattanri vizhiyEn enru Sengachchu koNDu kaNNADai Arttu Siru mAniDavarai tANil nANum kongaittalamivai------‘ nAchchiyAr tirumozhi. Like ANDAL parakAla nAyaki loved emberumAn who has SanKa and chakra. He came for a short while, gave her samslESha and went away.

It was very short like a dream. ‘That is why i lament loudly, i feel the samslESha occurred long ago and for a short while only. It was like a short sweet dream.'

Everyone seems to be in deep slumber. Only my friend and me are awake waiting for the arrival of dawn and Him. Even the hen is sleeping. The night does not seem to end.

Since kaNNa pirAn is my dear husband. manmatha becomes my son. Yet the god of love tortures me. Is it proper of a son to do so to his mother? i can somehow say it is proper if my husband treats me so. But how can a son behave in this manner?

‘What does he do to you?’

‘Well! he pours fire on me in all seasons. Still my young breasts swell for Him alone’.

The emberumAn doing nityavAsa in tirumaliruSOlai has taken away the modesty due to a woman. He never thinks ‘Alas! What have i done to her? Why should i snatch away everything of her?’ and never seems to worry about that and me! He is utterly merciless. The soorya BagavAn is also His subordinate. He acts according to His wishes. Shouldn’t he rise after setting long ago? He has hidden somewhere! Oh! Why should i still keep this body? Let it fall into pieces and die. i think that will solve all the problems.

‘nAhamisai tuyilvAn pOl ulahellAm nangoDunga yOhaNaivAn kavarAda uDambinAl kuraivilamE’— tiruvAimozhi expresses similar idea.

In the last pASura she said ‘nanju uDalam tuyinrAl namakkini nalladE’. She then realized to live or die is not in our hands. It all happens according to His sankalpa. Even if we pray ‘kaNNALA! kaDal kaDaindAi! un kazharkkE varum pariSu taNNAvAdu aDiyEnai paNi koNDAi sAmArE’, if His sankalpa is different He won't let us die. Here too parakAla nAyaki wanted to die but emberumAn thought otherwise. He wants AzhwAr to live for some more time and correct the people. Therefore here nAyaki pleads to give her His darSana.

Let me not become a target of manmatha’s arrows. Let me renounce my womanly timidity and modesty, which prevent me going out to seek Him. This transgression is due to the extraordinary nature of emberumAn and the haste in reaching Him at any cost.

tirumangai AzhwAr has sung these ten pASuras on emberumAn who subdued the seven powerful bulls for the sake of nappinnai pirATTi. Those who sing and meditate them shall be rid of all pApas. Not only those Baktas but even those living in the city will be untouched by pApas.
